Ingredients:
- 1 block firm tofu, sliced into 1/2-inch thick pieces
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
- 4 sheets nori seaweed
- 2 cups cooked sushi rice
- 1 avocado, sliced
- 1 cucumber, julienned
- 1 carrot, julienned
Instructions:
Press tofu between paper towels to remove excess moisture
In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, honey, ginger, and garlic
Marinate tofu slices in the mixture for at least 30 minutes
Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat
Add marinated tofu slices and cook until golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side
Remove tofu from skillet and sprinkle sesame seeds on top
Place one nori sheet on a clean surface
Spread a layer of sushi rice on the nori sheet, leaving about an inch border around the edges
Layer tofu slices, avocado, cucumber, and carrot on top of the rice
Top with another layer of sushi rice
Fold the edges of the nori sheet over the filling to form a square shape, pressing gently to seal
Repeat with remaining ingredients to make additional onigirazu
Slice each onigirazu in half and serve with soy sauce for dipping
